10 years ago this week...

This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Nordic skiing — An individual state champion in pursuit for the Stillwater Ponies before graduating in 2012, Nora Gilbertson earns All-American honors in four events while competing in the Junior National Cross Country Ski Championships in Stowe, Vt. This marks the fifth straight appearances at nationals for Gilbertson, now a sophomore at St. Olaf College.

Boys swimming and diving — Senior Brady Anderson is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater boys swimming and diving team, which finishes with an 8-1 record to place second in the Suburban East Conference before capturing the Section 4AA championship. Marcus Green, Colin Eason, Alex Percival and Brennan Rosell are selected to serve as captains for next year’s team.

Colleges — Beloit College freshman Marie Bonine receives the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. The recent Stillwater graduate sets a school record with 15 saves in a loss to Ohio Wesleyan.
