This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Women’s swimming and diving — Competing in the same place she won individual state diving titles for the Stillwater girls swimming and diving team, University of Minnesota senior Maggie Keefer wraps up an outstanding college career by earning All-American honors after placing fourth in 1-meter diving, ninth in 3-meter diving and 12th in platform diving in the NCAA Championships at the U of M Aquatic Center.

Colleges — SAHS graduate Savanna Handevidt, who starts all 27 games for the Minnesota State University-Moorhead women’s basketball team, receives NSIC All-Academic honors. Competing for the University of Wisconsin-Stout men’s basketball team, Stillwater graduate Alex Oman is an honorable mention selection to the All-WIAC Team after averaging 13 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and finishing his Blue Devils career with 1,116 points.

Gymnastics — Senior and All-Suburban East Conference performer Sidnee Ronsberg receives the Most Valuable Athlete Award for the Stillwater gymnastics team. The Ponies, who finish with a 5-4 dual meet record and place fourth in Section 4AA, receive a Gold Academic Award and rank No. 4 in Class AA with a 3.91 grade point average.
