    Girls track and field: Ponies hold off Roseville at SEC Relays

    ROSEVILLE — After squaring off in a dual meet a week earlier, Stillwater held off Roseville in a larger field during the Suburban East Conference Relays on Tuesday, April 9 at Roseville Area High School.

    The Ponies held off Roseville 116-114 for the top spot while Woodbury (89) and Mounds View (86) followed in third and fourth.

    Stillwater and Roseville each finished first in five events while Mounds View claimed four victories. Three of those firsts for the Ponies came in the field events, including the long jump, triple jump and high jump.

    Liberty Quast (33-8) and Karina Fischer (33-4) finished 1-2 to lead the Ponies in the triple jump while Cayman Pagel (16-9 1/4), Anya Williams (16-6) and Angela Taylor (16-4 1/2) placed second through fourth in the long jump. Williams also cleared 5-2 to lead all athletes in the high jump.

    On the track, Stillwater registered first-place finishes in the 4x100 (50.04) and 4x400 (4:08.62) relays. The Ponies also produced runner-up finishes behind Mounds View in the 100 (1:15.29) and 300 (3:33.25) hurdles. Kayla Kajer (17.34) finished fourth in the 100 hurdles and Ella Martens (50.26) was the third fastest in the 300 hurdles to pace the Ponies in those events.

    Sylvia Boyum also enjoyed a strong showing for the Ponies, while turning in a first-place toss of 37-0 in the shot put and a fifth-place distance of 95-6 in the discus. Stillwater placed third and fourth in those events.
