This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Synchronized swimming — Facing its most formidable conference challenge, Stillwater turns back Forest Lake 16-13 in a synchronized swimming figures meet. It is the program’s 175th straight dual meet win covering nearly a quarter century. The Rangers post two of the three top scores, but depth wins out for the Ponies with Katie Koenning, Claire Haws, Elise Adrian, Skyler Olson and Emily Adrian.

Softball — It what was the team’s first appearance outdoors after conducting practices indoors, the Stillwater softball team adjusts to the elements in a 15-4 Suburban East Conference victory at Cretin-Derham Hall. Natalie Gerber and Natalie Ingram each supply three hits while Rachel Hartwig throws five innings and drives in four RBIs to lead the Ponies.

Wrestling — One of three state qualifiers for the Ponies, senior Peter Palecek is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater wrestling team. Collin Olson and Grant Wohlwend join Palecek in earning all-conference honors for the Ponies.
