    Boys track and field: Ponies finish third at WBL Relays

    WHITE BEAR LAKE — Just 10 points separated the top three, but the Stillwater boys track and field team settled for third in the White Bear Lake Relays on Thursday, April 11.

    The host Bears held off Mounds View 133.98-131.97 for the top spot while the Ponies followed with 123.96 points, nearly five points ahead of fourth-place Woodbury (119).

    It was the first outdoor meet of the season for the Ponies, who featured the top individual finisher in four events.

    Stillwater boasted two of the four athletes in the high jump as Nagayo Barento and Chase Johnson each cleared 6-0 to lead the way.

    Liam Neis was the top finisher in the pole vault at 13-1 while teammate John Corbett finished in a tie for fourth at 11-6.

    Soel Riser completed the 400 meters with a winning time of 50.78 and he also tied for third place in the 100 with a time of 11.56.

    Ethan Foote ran to a victory in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:26.40. Robert Mechura of Roseville won the 3,200 meters with a sizzling time of 9:10.84, but Dylan Riniker (9:58.64) and Andrew Walsh (9:58.98) placed second and third in the event for the Ponies.

    Evan Uddin (45-0) and Tyler Curnow (44-5) placed third and fourth for the Ponies in the shot put while Cash Cerar (43-0) wasn’t far behind in seventh.

    Zach Nelson added a fifth-place showing for Stillwater in the triple jump with a distance of 40-0.

    Stillwater is scheduled to host the Pony Classic on Saturday, April 20 starting at 11 a.m.
