OAK PARK HEIGHTS — Cruising through the singles lineup without dropping a set, Stillwater topped Mounds Park Academy 6-1 in a nonconference boys tennis match on Wednesday, April 17 at Stillwater Area High School.

The doubles matches were tighter, but the Ponies (0-1 SEC, 2-1) also secured victories in two of those three spots.

“We had a good match with Mounds Park,” Stillwater coach Dave Kahl said. “They were good matches against a good team and the doubles were all closely contested, fortunately we pulled out two of the three.”

Stillwater’s Oren Hamilton and Garin Warner notched a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Akshay Somayajula and Amal Sastry at first doubles and teammates Joe Patucek and Ben Most prevailed in two tie-breakers to add another point for the Ponies at the second spot.

Dennis Funk and Matthew Daum won the first set in their match against MPA’s Davis Rovn and Carter Short, but the Panthers rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 victory at third doubles to avoid the sweep.

Carter Magistad and West Dell lost just three games combined in their victories for Stillwater at first and second singles. Dustin Jurca was pushed to a tie-breaker in the opening set before completing at 7-6, 6-2 win over Adam Redden at third singles. Logan Liveringhouse won 6-2, 6-2 for the Ponies at the fourth spot.

“Carter and West had particularly impressive performances at first and second singles,” Kahl said.

Stillwater was scheduled to host Roseville in a conference match on April 16, but that was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for Monday, April 22.
