    Softball: Stillwater extends winning streak to four games

    WOODBURY — Trailing after four innings, Stillwater pulled even with two runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to pull away for a 7-5 Suburban East Conference softball victory over the Raptors on Wednesday, April 24 at East Ridge High School.

    Maya Schroeder belted out four hits, including a double, and scored three times to help lead the charge for Stillwater (6-3, 7-3), which finished with 13 hits in all.

    Lilly Grundner and Sarah Dollerschell added two hits apiece for the Ponies, who also received a double and two RBIs from Addison Coffey.

    Anna Corbid earned the victory for Stillwater in relief of starter Cece Lamey. Corbid allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter in 3 2/3 innings, finishing with three strikeouts.

    It was the fourth consecutive victory for the Ponies to help keep them in the conference title chase behind Cretin-Derham Hall (7-1, 7-1), White Bear Lake (7-1, 7-1) and Forest Lake (7-2, 7-2). Stillwater has also scored seven runs or more in six of its last seven games.

    Lena Wilcox singled twice for the Raptors (3-5, 3-5).

    Stillwater 11, Mounds View 6

    At Shoreview, the Ponies scored at least one run in six of seven innings to knock off Mounds View 11-6 in a conference game on Monday, April 22 at Rice Creek Park.

    The Mustangs (2-7, 2-7) scored a run each in the first and second innings to stay within 3-2, but Stillwater extended its lead with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to build a 7-2 cushion.

    Maya Schroeder helped spark the Ponies at the top of the order while collecting three hits, including a double and triple, to finish with two RBIs. Sarah Dollerschell and Autumn Lettner also doubled while finishing with two hits apiece.

    Stillwater 17, Park 9

    At Cottage Grove, the Ponies exploded for 18 hits on the way to a 17-9 conference victory over the Wolfpack on Wednesday, April 17 at Park High School.

    Maya Schroeder homered twice and finished with three hits and five RBIs for the Ponies, who also received three hits and two RBIs from Megan Boser. Eleven different players collected at least one hit for Stillwater.

    The Ponies scored three runs in the top of the fifth to build a 9-4 lead, but Park (5-4 SEC, 5-4) stormed back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to climb within 9-8.

    Stillwater answered quickly, however, with five runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to pull away.

    The teams combined for 25 hits and 14 walks in the game, which stretched to more than three hours.
