OAK PARK HEIGHTS — After pulling out a narrow victory over Forest Lake, the Stillwater boys tennis team followed with a 6-1 victory over Roseville in a Suburban East Conference dual meet on Monday, April 22 at Stillwater Area High School.

It was the third straight victory for the Ponies (2-1 SEC, 4-1), who swept all four singles matches against the Raiders.

West Dell was pushed to three sets for Stillwater at second singles, but he outlasted Peter Linabery 5-7, 7-3, 11-9.

Carter Magistad did not drop a game in his victory for the Ponies at first singles and Dustin Jurca was nearly as dominant while prevailing 6-0, 6-1 at the third spot.

Playing at fourth singles, Logan Liveringhouse finished strong in a 7-5, 6-2 win over Trent Silverthorn.

Roseville collected its long point at third doubles where Cole Hartman and Will Wright turned back Jack Myers and Dennis Funk 7-5, 6-3.

Stillwater had little trouble in the other doubles matches. Oren Hamilton and Garin Warner posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at the first spot and teammates Joe Patucek and Ben Most cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at second doubles.

    • Stillwater was scheduled to Cretin-Derham Hall in a conference dual on Apri 23, but that match was rained out and rescheduled for Wednesday, May 8.

“Hopefully we don’t run into more weather issues — we are running out of dates,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said.

At Forest Lake, strength at the top of the singles and doubles lineup paid off the Ponies in a thrilling 4-3 conference victory over the Rangers on Thursday, April 18 at Forest Lake High School.

The teams were tied 3-all after six matches had been completed, leaving a tight match at third singles to determine the outcome. Stillwater freshman Dustin Jurca rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Owen Dzurik to provide the deciding point.

“We easily could have dropped that one, but fortunately we were stronger up at the top of the lineup and got some heroics from Dustin at third singles,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “Most of the final set was played with the meet score tied and Dustin kept great composure and used his strong serve and aggressive style to take control and pull the match out for us.”

Stillwater also received singles victories from Carter Magistad and West Dell. Magistad cruised past Frank Kerkow 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and West Dell won by the same score over Braden Anderson at the second spot.

Forest Lake picked up a key point at fourth singles where Drew Manning held off Logan Liveringhouse 6-4, 7-5.

The Rangers were also strong at second and third doubles, including a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dennis Funk and Matthew Daum at the third spot.

Oren Hamilton and Garin Warner continued their strong play at first doubles for the Ponies, earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Liam Georges and Jonah Kauls.

“It was an exciting match,” Kahl said.
