10 years ago this week...

This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Boys tennis — Mitch Johnson rallies from a 4-3 deficit in the third set to prevail 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 at first singles to help lift Stillwater to a 4-3 Suburban East Conference boys tennis victory at Park. The Ponies also receive a singles victory from Brian Treacy and claim two of three doubles points to prevail.

Girls lacrosse — Carter Sanderson supplies six goals and Kate Sheely adds four tallies to help propel the Stillwater girls lacrosse team to a 16-5 Suburban East Conference victory over Mounds View at SAHS. Katie Lottsfeldt and Britt Pooley each finish with a save for the Ponies (1-0 SEC, 2-0).

Boys track and field — The Stillwater boys track and field team receives first-place finishes from Allen-Michael Burback (800), Sam Hanson (1,600), Edoardo Tagliaferri (3,200) and Isaac Hale (high jump), but finishes just one point behind Anoka (866-865) to place second in the eight-team Cambridge-Isanti Invitational, which uses a true team scoring format.
