    Boys tennis: Ponies fall to fourth-ranked Mahtomedi

    OAK PARK HEIGHTS — After running its winning streak to six matches in a row, Stillwater was stopped by fourth-ranked Mahtomedi 6-1 in a nonconference boys tennis dual on Wednesday, May 1 at Stillwater Area High School.

    It was the first loss for the Ponies (4-1 SEC, 7-2) since falling to sixth-ranked Mounds View on April 11. Mahtomedi, whose only loss this season was against No. 1-ranked Wayzata, improved to 11-1.

    The Zephyrs boast three of the top singles players in the state and they cruised to victories at the first three spots, but Logan Liveringhouse notched a 6-2, 6-1 victory for the Ponies at fourth singles. Joe Potucek and Ben Most also provided a point for Stillwater with a 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 triumph at second doubles.

    No. 2 — Joe Potucek-Ben Most (St) def. Max Hendrickson-Eli Hendrickson, 6-2, 5-7, 11-9.

    No. 3 — Reese Nelson-Luke Roettger (Mah) def. Jack Myers-Gavin Schuna, 6-2, 6-2.

    Stillwater 6, Park 1

    At Oak Park Heights, the Ponies did not drop a set in four singles matches on the way to a 6-1 Suburban East Conference victory over Park on Tuesday, April 30 at SAHS.

    Stillwater 4, John Marshall 3

    At Rochester, the Ponies improved to 3-0 this season in matches decided by a single point after posting a 4-3 nonconference victory over the Rockets on Saturday, April 27 at Rochester John Marshall High School.

    After splitting four singles matches, the Ponies prevailed with straight-set victories at first and second doubles.

    At White Bear Lake, the Ponies picked up a victory from Carter Magistad at first singles and swept all three doubles matches to slip past White Bear Lake 4-3 in a conference dual meet on Thursday, April 25 at White Bear Lake High School.
