EAGAN — Members of the Stillwater boys track and field team made sure the final True Team state meet hosted at SAHS would not go on without them.

The Ponies racked up 843 points to outdistance runner-up Eagan (740.5) and the rest of the eight-team field in the Section 2AAA Meet on Tuesday, May 7 at Eagan High School. Woodbury (712) and White Bear Lake (705) followed in third and fourth.

Stillwater has served as host for the True Team state meet each year it has been held dating back to 2006, but next year’s event will be conducted elsewhere. This year’s state meet will take place on Friday, May 17. The Ponies have been regular participants in the popular meet wherever it has been held, having qualified for state 32 of 37 seasons dating back to 1987.

The Ponies showed strength up and down the lineup while earning another state berth. It also marked the first victory of the season after placing second five times and third on another occasion.

Stillwater was exceptional in the field events, with strength up front and depth to match. The team’s third finisher in each field event placed 10th or better.

The Ponies swept the top three spots in the pole vault with Henry Corbett, Andrew Brekke and Liam Neis each clearing 13-6. Neis also contributed to a strong showing in the high jump, where he placed third (6-0) behind second-place teammate Chase Johnson (6-2) and fourth-place Nagayo Barento (5-10).

Tyler Curnow unleashed the top throw in the discus at 141-11 while Emmett Valley followed in third at 136-6. Curnow also led the Ponies in the shot put with a third-place finish at 47-11, just ahead of teammates Cash Cerar (46-5 1/4) and Evan Uddin (46-1 1/4) in fourth and fifth.

Brett Hilde (41-4 1/2), Walker Mroczkowski (40-9 3/4) and Zach Nelson (40-8 1/4) landed sixth, seventh and eighth in the triple jump. Emilio Rosario Matias (20- 3/4) placed fourth for the Ponies in the long jump while Nelson (19-11 1/2) and Aldridge (19-5 1/2) followed in fifth and eighth.

Ethan Foote won two events, setting the pace for Stillwater’s 1-2-4 finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.42. Dylan Riniker (2:00.74) and Cohen Smith (2:02.21) followed in second and fourth. Foote also won the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:22.75 — finishing just .03 ahead of runner-up Nathan Schultz (4:22.78) of East Ridge — and Riniker wasn’t far behind in fifth place at 4:29.02.

Jack Richter (10:01.79) and Andrew Walsh (10:02.85) placed third and fifth for the Ponies in the 3,200 meters while Porter Shockey and Davis Rolstad joined Walsh and Smith to provide a victory in the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:24.52.
