    Baseball: Ponies cruise past Roseville

    OAK PARK HEIGHTS — After having its four-game winning streak snapped by East Ridge, the Ponies responded in a big way while defeating Roseville 12-1 in five innings of their Suburban East Conference baseball game on Monday, May 6 at Stillwater Area High School.

    The Ponies (9-3 SEC, 10-3) pushed nine runs across in the bottom of the first inning and limited Roseville to just four hits in the game. Roseville (4-8, 5-8) started the game with a run in the top of the first, but Stillwater stormed back with 12 unanswered runs to pull away.

    Jack Runk, Owen Maslowski and Ty Schroeder each supplied three hits to pace the Ponies, who added two runs in the second and one more in the fourth.

    Alex Boston started for Stillwater and allowed three hits and one run in two innings of work. He did not allow a walk and finished with two strikeouts. Joe Fredkove followed with two hitless innings before Emmitt Campbell closed it out with a scoreless fifth.

    Stillwater trails Mounds View (10-2, 11-2) by one game in the SEC standings with six league games remaining, just ahead of East Ridge (8-3, 9-3), White Bear Lake (7-5, 9-5), Woodbury (7-5, 7-6) and Cretin-Derham Hall (6-6, 6-6).

    East Ridge 6, Stillwater 2

    At Woodbury, two days after knocking off conference front-runner Mounds View, the Ponies were upended by East Ridge 6-2 in an SEC game on Friday, May 3 at East Ridge.

    Tied 2-all after three innings, the Raptors moved in front with a run in the bottom of the fourth and added two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to pull away. East Ridge finished with just six hits, but also took advantage of five walks.

    It was the sixth straight victory for East Ridge after starting the season with losses in three of its first six games.

    Back-to-back doubles by Blake Vanek and Alex Boston produced Stillwater’s two runs in the third, but the Ponies also stranded eight runners in the game while finishing with just five hits.

    Will Preimesberger allowed two runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
