Boys volleyball: Tartan outlasts Ponies for five-set victory in conference match

OAKDALE — The Stillwater boys volleyball team fell to 1-2 in the East Conference following a 3-2 loss at Tartan on Thursday, May 2.

It marked the first time in the program’s history the Ponies have played a five-set match, with Tartan prevailing by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 26-24, 24-26 and 15-11.

“That was the most fun match we have played,” Ponies coach Pete Farrell said.

The Ponies fell to 5-10 overall as they prepare for a steady diet of conference matches the rest of the way.

St. Paul Harding (3-0 EC, 5-2) and North St. Paul (2-0, 7-3-1) are the only teams in the 10-team East Conference still undefeated in league play. East Ridge (4-1, 6-7) and Tartan each have just one conference loss.

Stillwater was scheduled to travel to Forest Lake for a conference match on Thursday, May 9 and then hosts St. Paul Washington Technology Magnet from the Central Conference in nonconference contest on Friday, May 10.
