    Girls golf: Stillwater places fourth at Tanners Brook

    FOREST LAKE — The Stillwater girls golf team finished fourth in a Suburban East Conference meet on Wednesday, May 22 at Tanners Brook Golf Course.

    The Ponies posted a score of 177 to place just a few shots behind runner-up Forest Lake (174) and third-place Mounds View (175). East Ridge extended its lead in the standings with a winning score of 163.

    It was the final tune-up as part of a busy stretch for Stillwater heading into the SEC Tournament, which was scheduled for Thursday, May 23 at Oak Glen Golf Course in Stillwater.

    Sam Schinka paced the balanced Ponies with a 54 at Tanners Brook, followed closely by Vyan Abdullah (44), Kylie Voight (45) and Nora Roberts (45).

    Lily Vincelli of Cretin-Derham Hall claimed medalist honors with a 33 on the par-36 front nine.

    Ponies 3rd at Stillwater CC

    The Ponies recorded their second-lowest nine-hole score of the season while placing third in a conference meet on Monday, May 20 at Stillwater Country Club.

    East Ridge held the top spot with a score of 163 while White Bear Lake followed at 173. The Ponies secured third place after joining Woodbury and Forest Lake with scores of 176. Vyan Abdullah’s 47 as the team’s fifth score tilted the tie-breaker in Stillwater’s favor.

    Nora Roberts led the Ponies with a 41, followed by Sam Schinka (44), Jenna Voight (45) and Addison Schinka (46).

    Ponies 18th at Preview

    At Coon Rapids, Stillwater tied for 18th in a strong field of competitors in the Tri-State Preview Invitational on May 17-18 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.

    Maple Grove cruised to a 617-633 victory over runner-up Detroit Lakes in the 20-team field.

    Stillwater posted a score of 361 on Day 1 and followed with a 367 in the second round to finish in a tie with Southwest Christian at 728.

    Addison Schinka led the Ponies with a 175 (85-90) while Vyan Abdullah followed at 182 (90-92). Also competing for the Ponies were Sam Schinka (184), Kylie Voight (189), Jenna Voight (190) and Lauren Roberts (195).
