10 years ago this week...

This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Girls lacrosse — After losing to East Ridge during the regular season, the Stillwater girls lacrosse team cruises to a 13-2 victory over the Raptors in the Section 4 championship game at Mounds View High School. Remi Larson and Carly Fedorowski each deliver three goals for the Ponies (13-3), who earn their fourth consecutive state tournament bid.

Girls golf — Cretin-Derham Hall pulls away from Stillwater for a 680-694 victory in the Section 4AAA girls golf tournament at Tanners Brook Golf Course, ending a run of four consecutive trips to state for the Ponies. Erin Thiets and Claudia Kim advance to state for the Ponies as individuals.

Boys golf — For the second year in a row, Stillwater’s Evan Anderson survives a playoff in the Section 4AAA tourney to earn a spot in the state tournament. Anderson makes birdie on the first playoff hole to outlast three others, including teammate Sammy Sicard, for the final state bid after all four players tied at 157.

Girls track and field — Cecelia Peterson in the 300 hurdles and Hannah Anderson in the 800 meters earn repeat trips to the girls state track and field meet as the top performers in Stillwater’s sixth-place finish in the Section 4AA Meet at Stillwater Area High School.
