This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Boys golf — Two-time state qualifier Evan Anderson is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater boys golf team. Anderson, a 28th-place finisher in the state tournament, helps lead the Ponies to a third-place finish in the Suburban East Conference and a fourth-place showing in the Section 4AAA tournament.

Football — The Stillwater 7-on-7 football team wins the NFL High School Player Development Regional Tournament at Winter Park, an event hosted by the Minnesota Vikigns at their training facility. Stillwater rallies from a 17-point deficit in the second half to defeat Lakeville South 45-38 in the championship game, earning the Ponies an all-expense paid trip to Indianapolis to compete in the NFL High School Development National Tournament, which includes teams from the 31 NFL markets across the country.

Running — Wynn Davis (55th place) and Pete Hoyem (136th) of Stillwater, and Chris Hesse-Withbroe (949th) are the top local finishers in Grandma’s Marathon, which finishes in Duluth. Hesse-Withbroe places 15th in her age group while Nick Gardner of Stillwater finishes second in the 12-18 age group. Tom Prentice, 54, and Norm Purrington, 70, both of Lake Elmo, each place third in their age groups.
