This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

Golf — Stillwater Area High School graduates Cassie Deeg and Hudson Carpenter qualify for USGA national championships. Deeg, a previous qualifier for two U.S. Junior Amateur Championships, earns a spot in her first U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship after placing second in a section qualifier at Hastings Country Club. Carpenter, shares medalist honors during a qualifier at Chaska Town Course to advance to the U.S. Amateur Championship for the second time.

Football — Representing the Minnesota Vikings, a group of players from the Stillwater Area High School football team finish with a 5-2 record in pool play but then lose to the Detroit Lions squad in the first round of bracket play during the NFL High School Player Development National Tournament in Indianapolis. The 7-on-7 football tournament is hosted at the Indianapolis Colts training facility.

Boys lacrosse — Zach Shockency on defense and Harrison Yaste on offense are chosen as the Most Valuable Players for the Stillwater boys lacrosse team.
