After over a decade of waiting, we finally have another college football video game.

EA Sports College Football 25 releases worldwide Friday so in the spirit of the new game, I decided to auto-sim the 2024 season and see how OU , Oklahoma State and the nation fared. Remember, this is a video game, so there's naturally going to be some shocking results.

Here is how the Cowboys and Sooners' seasons ended up, including some other notable moments across the country:

The Sooners' first season in the SEC was filled with ups and downs. While they're 7-5 record isn't too far off from most preseason projections, there were a few stunners on the schedule.

After escaping Temple with a two-point victory to open the season, OU was upset 21-14 at home by a Houston team that finished 4-8. The Sooners easily defeated Tulane and fell to Tennessee at home 28-24 before rattling off three consecutive victories over Auburn, Texas in the Red River Rivalry and South Carolina.

OU went on to win just two more games the rest of the season, beating Maine and Missouri and falling in blowout fashion to Mississippi, Alabama and LSU. The Sooners ended the season on a high note, however, defeating Florida in the Citrus Bowl and ranking No. 13 in the final top 25 poll.

OU finished eighth in the SEC with a 4-4 conference record. The Volunteers were crowned SEC champions.

Quarterback Jackson Arnold finished 12th in Heisman voting with 3,521 yards passing, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 73% of his passes. Gavin Sawchuk led the Sooners in rushing with 551 yards, while Andrel Anthony recorded a team-high 988 receiving yards.

Linebacker Danny Stutsman led OU's defense with 100 tackles and finished as a second-team national All-American. The next closest was cornerback Woodi Washington with 60. Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman were named to the SEC All-First Team, while Washington earned a second-team nod in the conference.

One of the biggest surprises was how poorly the Sooners' defense played throughout the season. They finished No. 13 out of 16 SEC teams in team defense.

The Cowboys started the 2024 season 6-0, dominating Arkansas at home and recording crucial victories over Utah and Kansas State in consecutive weeks.

OSU looked like the favorite to clinch a playoff spot in the Big 12 heading into its bye week. But the Cowboys dropped two straight road games, at BYU and at Baylor, surrendering their first-place standing.

OSU finished 8-4, with its other two losses coming on the road to TCU and Colorado. OSU defeated Pittsburgh 24-14 in the Duke's Mayo Bowl to conclude its campaign.

Despite not receiving a top-12 Heisman vote, running back Ollie Gordon II was named a first-team All-American and led the nation in rushing yards with 1,523. However, he lost out on the best running back award to Michigan's Donovan Edwards, who rushed for 21 touchdowns compared to Gordon's 13.

Texas Tech defeated BYU in the Big 12 Championship Game.

How College Football Playoff shook out

The Dillon Gabriel-led Oregon Ducks clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the CFP bracket, with Gabriel taking home the Heisman Trophy. Ohio State's Will Howard, Tennessee's Nico Iamaleava, Georgia's Carson Beck and Utah's Cameron Rising made up the top five finishers.

The wildest result of the simulation was that two group of five teams, Texas State and Fresno State, made the 12-team field, while no Big 12 teams were selected.

No Big 12 team finished with fewer than four losses.

The rest of the field was comprised of Florida State, USC, Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Mississippi, Penn State and Tennessee. Ohio State defeated Tennessee and Michigan demolished Mississippi to set up a Michigan-Ohio State rematch for the national championship.

The Wolverines won the first meeting but the Buckeyes got their revenge in the title game.
