New Oklahoma laws address sheriff's offices and school resource officers
ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) — It took over a year for House Bill 2914 to make its rounds through the legislature, first being read in April of 2023. Now law as of Monday, it's created the Oklahoma Sheriff's Office Funding Assistance Program. Sheriffs can submit grant applications to the attorney general’s office once each fiscal year to receive between $150,000 and $300,000 depending on qualifications.
Former Seminole Animal Control Officer Faces Animal Cruelty Charge
Cody Fitzgerald, a now former Seminole Animal Control Officer, faces allegations of felony animal cruelty, according to court documents filed on Monday. In the probable cause affidavit, an officer for the on-campus police department at Seminole State College said he responded to a call of two stray dogs inside a residential hall on May 7.

WELLSTON, Okla. — A lawsuit filed in Lincoln County sheds light on an illegal relationship between a substitute teacher and a 15-year-old student. The relationship prompted an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in 2023. Court documents said the substitute teacher, Emma Delany Hancock, worked at Wellston Public Schools, and the relationship happened inside the school building.
