Voters in the city of Novato will decide on a 0.75% sales tax increase in November after the City Council voted Tuesday to place the measure on the ballot. A San Francisco man is speaking out after someone yelling anti-LGBTQIA+ slurs, attacked him Sunday. Trevor Chandler, a candidate for District 9 Supervisor, said he was about to begin canvassing his neighborhood along Harrison Street. He said as he crossed 23rd Street, a man began yelling slurs at him. Chandler added after he took a few more steps, the man threw a metal A-frame at him. It didn’t hurt him, but it was frightening enough that he called police.

There were evacuations Friday in Bay Point and Concord, as the Point Fire in Contra Costa County grew to more than 470 acres, but was 40% contained as of Saturday. This is already a terrible weekend for California wildfires, as the Park Fire in Butte and Tehama counties has now burnt up more than 348,000 acres, making it the seventh-largest wildfire in California history. That wildfire is currently 0% contained, so the Park Fire news may get worse as the weekend progresses.
Thousands evacuate season's biggest wildfire in northern California
A huge, fast-moving and rapidly growing wildfire in northern California has forced more than 4,000 people to evacuate as firefighters battle gusty winds and perilously dry conditions, authorities said Friday. A total of 4,000 people have evacuated the towns of Cohasset and Forest Ranch, plus an additional 400 from the small city of Chico.
