NephSol and Zone Protects win Alabama Launchpad Cycle 2 for 2024
Two startup companies, NephSol Inc. and Zone Protects, have won the 2024 Alabama Launchpad Cycle 2 competition. The two winners combined have won $75,000. Alabama Launchpad is a program of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, which partnered with Innovate Alabama to present Cycle 2 at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Invention to Innovation Center. This is the 17th year of Alabama Launchpad, which has awarded more than $6 million to 121 startup Alabama companies since its inception in 2006.

Alabama High Schooler Dies After Collapsing At Football Practice
A community in Alabama is grieving the unexpected death of a high school student. Semaj Wilkins was attending football practice at New Brockton High School when he suddenly collapsed. On Aug. 13, Wilkins was participating in warmups when he suffered a medical emergency around 4:30 P.M. After being given CPR on the field, emergency responders transported him to a nearby medical center. The 14-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after. LeFlore High School students dismissed early because of air conditioning problems
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - LeFlore High School students were dismissed this morning due to air conditioning issues, according to the Mobile County Public School System. “The issues were due to construction, combined with a power outage this weekend with the storms,” MPCSS spokeswoman Rena Philips told FOX10 News. “We are in the process of doing major renovations at LeFlore, including the addition of a brand new wing that will front St. Stephens Road.”
