Holmes Graduates Midwestern
Stone County native Aaron Holmes, 27, the son of Willie and Sarah Holmes, graduated from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois on May 22, 2024 with a Doctor of Optometry degree. He previously graduated from Stone High School (2015), Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (2017), and the University of Southern Mississippi (2019). He will start work at the Illinois Eye Center in Peoria, Illinois in September. His future plans entail applying for a Mississippi Optometry license so he can practice in Mississippi in the future.
Woman Found with Meth at Perk Beach
A woman was found sleeping in her car and was arrested for controlled substances at Perk Beach. The Stone County Sheriff’s Department increased its patrol of the area after receiving numerous complaints from citizens finding needles under the bridge.
Local airports awarded grants by Federal Aviation Administration
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded over $3 million to the Gulfport Biloxi International Airport and Dean Griffin Memorial Airport in Stone County. GPT is using the grant to construct a new general aviation apron while Dean Griffin Memorial Airport will use the grant for various renovations.
County Signs Agreement to Hold Service Members
On Monday, July 15, the Naval Construction Center Gulfport singed anIntergovernmental Support Agreement with Stone County. This established the Stone County Regional Correctional Facility as an authorized location for pretrial confinement, which allows a safe and secure internment of service members who are awaitng trial.
