Friends of Stone Mountain State Park receives $10,000 donation

    2024-04-02

ROARING GAP — The Friends of Stone Mountain State Park, a non-profit organization that directly supports Stone Mountain State Park, recently received a $10,000 anonymous donation, the largest donation ever made to the organization.

The anonymous donor is passionate about North Carolina state parks, has hiked thousands of miles in the NC State Parks system, and appreciates the beauty and wildlife in Stone Mountain State Park. The donor, who has enjoyed hiking at Stone Mountain for decades, stated, “my appreciation for Stone Mountain State Park has grown steadily.”

The donation was made to the Friends of Stone Mountain State Park to enhance experiences and education for the environment. Friends has raised funds for trail maintenance tools, educational programs, and other needs of the park. Funds are raised through donation boxes in the park, online, and memberships.

State parks in North Carolina are free to the public for all to enjoy. Donations such as this one ensure that Stone Mountain State Park has the resources to provide programs and visitor experiences as well as maintain the park facilities.

Superintendent of Stone Mountain State Park Jeff Jones described the donation as “very generous” and said the park looks forward to continuing to work with the Friends group on trail and educational projects.
