Community blood center pleads for donations amidst type-O blood shortage
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Vitalant, the community blood center for nearly 900 hospitals in the United States, said they are experiencing an emergency shortage of type-O blood. In a release, the organization said they have experienced a 30% blood donation shortfall recently. They said this is largely due to the Fourth of July holiday week and the extreme heat combined with summer vacations.

We are halfway through the work week, and we have finally cooled down with the help of a frontal system that is also providing us rain showers and storms throughout the day today. High temperatures have lowered about 10 degrees, with highs only reaching into the low to mid 80s in the lowlands and the mid 70s in the higher elevations. These storms do have a bit of potential for severity, with wind gusts up to 35MPH in the more mountainous regions in the valleys especially.
