A law named in honor of a police dog killed in the line of duty has gone into effect. "Broko's Law" honors the Stonington K-9 who was killed while protecting his handler in December. Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz was joined by several members of law enforcement on Thursday to announce the law's enactment. Gov. Lamont signed the bill into law last month. Under Broko's Law, if a K-9 is killed in the line of duty money goes to its law enforcement agency rather than the court. According to Lt. Gov. Bysiewicz the cost to buy, train and maintain a police dog can cost from $20,000 to $40,000. "
