    Canon, SBU essay competition highlights Japanese culture

    Fostering its commitment to empowering students and supporting education, Canon U.S.A. sponsored the 19th Annual Japan Center Essay Competition Awards Ceremony at Stony Brook University.

    Facilitated by the university’s Japan Center, the competition recognizes local students who demonstrated their awareness and understanding of Japanese culture. This includes creative and critical thinking about their lives in relation to experiences, as well as broadening their horizons and promoting global citizenship.

    The competition included 233 essays submitted by Long Island high school and college students, which discussed a range of topics. A judging panel selected the winners, who received awards including a Canon product.

     

    New MOU between BNL, SUNY Old Westbury launched

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=08Z2zr_0t66RjnI00 A delegation from Brookhaven National Laboratory visited SUNY Old Westbury to kick off work evolving from a new memorandum of understanding between the institutions to create collaborative programs and activities for each institution. More than 40 BNL leaders participated in discussions comprising shared interests in the natural sciences, physics, data science and information science.

    A key component of the MOU includes a project steering committee between the lab and the university for continued growth and development. It will drive programs supporting undergraduate STEM-related research, fostering collaborations between BNL research and technical staff and Old Westbury faculty researchers, and the sharing of ideas concerning BNL’s planned Discovery Park.

     

    SCO Family of Services honored at this year’s Imagine Awards

    Nonprofit agency SCO Family of Services was the winner of this year’s Cerini & Associates Social Impact Award at the 12th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards. Given to a nonprofit that measures success not just by meeting its mission, but by affecting the surrounding community, SCO’s Madonna Heights campus was recognized for its comprehensive and trauma-informed approach to caring for women and girls.

    Madonna Heights in Dix Hills is designed to meet the unique needs of women and girls who have undergone trauma or hardship and need holistic support.

     

    Mount Sinai South Nassau celebrates National Nurses Week

    In honor of National Nurses Week, hospital staff members at Mount Sinai South Nassau recognized its nursing staff for its level of patient care, dedication and commitment at a breakfast last week.

    Several awards were also distributed, such as the Daisy Lifetime Achievement Award and Daisy Leader Award. Other highlights included the recognition of emergency department nurse Josephine Murray, who was Mount Sinai South Nassau’s nominee for the 2024 Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council Nurse of Excellence Award.
