    President, Stony Brook University


    Currently serving as Stony Brook University’s sixth president, with oversight for Stony Brook Medicine, Maurie McInnis has been a key player in furthering Long Island’s development as well Stony Brook’s role as part of the management team of Brookhaven National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy facility.

    Along with her Stony Brook leadership team, McInnis advanced opportunities to recruit accomplished faculty, conduct groundbreaking research, provide the best clinical care for patients and boost students’ socioeconomic mobility. Under her watch, Stony Brook was named a flagship university of the State University of New York by Gov. Kathy Hochul. The university also received a $500 million gift from the Simons Foundation the largest unrestricted endowment gift to a higher education institution in U.S. history. Additionally, Stony Brook was ranked the No. 1 public university statewide by U.S. News & World Report in 2024 its highest-ever ranking.

    To promote excellence by improving pathways to STEM careers for underrepresented students, McInnis announced the Stony Brook Simons STEM Scholars Program, supported by a $56.6 million gift from the Simons Foundation. Last year, Stony Brook launched the $75 million President’s Innovation and Excellence Fund, which is fully supported by philanthropic gifts to enhance externally funded research in areas including quantum computing and communications, computational biology, healthy aging and battery storage, among others.

    McInnis was also named the inaugural board chair of the New York Climate Exchange , whichwas selected in April 2023 to build an international climate solutions center on Governors Island.

    Effective July 1, McInnis will step down from her Stony Brook role to become president of Yale University.
