(WHTM) — Period poverty in schools is an ongoing problem Pennsylvania lawmakers and organizations are looking to solve. “It is definitely something that has been an ongoing concern and really impacting our youth throughout the Commonwealth,” said Megan Swope, the President & CEO of Making Miracles Happen Inc. also known as the Period Project Harrisburg. “You know, throughout the Commonwealth, over 400,000 people who menstruate are living below the poverty line. And that means that they are probably struggling to afford their sanitary supply. So, what will happen is those that are unsheltered or low income will extend wear or use alternative materials or go without to try to deal with their menstrual flow.”
