At least 120 people were confirmed dead across six states on Monday, Sept. 30, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. There are reports of at least 600 people unaccounted for because they can’t be contacted.

Helene was a Category 4 hurricane when it made landfall in Florida on Thursday with winds of 140 mph.

Crews worked to clear debris, restore power and get supplies into communities that are still trapped. Hundreds of roads are closed, especially in the Carolinas, which has made it impossible to enter or leave.

More than 2 million customers were still without power, according to poweroutage.us.

On Monday, President Joe Biden addressed the devastation.

“I’m committed to traveling to impacted areas as soon as possible," Biden said. "But I’ve been told that it would be disruptive if I did it right now. We will not do that at the risk of diverting or delaying any of the response assets needed to deal with this crisis.”

Vice President Kamala Harris canceled events in Las Vegas on Sunday night after her rally to travel back to Washington. She’s expected to get a briefing at FEMA headquarters about the storm damage.

Donald Trump will make a stop in Georgia for a briefing on the devastation.
