Crews continued on Tuesday, Oct. 1, to search for hundreds of missing people following Hurricane Helene. According to FEMA , the Red Cross got 3,000 requests from people looking for loved ones in a 24 hour period.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas , who oversees FEMA, said the agency has delivered 1.9 million ready-to-eat meals, 1 million liters of water and 95,000 tarps.

In Tennessee, high water trapped multiple employees at a plastics factory. Impact Plastics confirmed that some of the workers did not survive, but did not disclose how many. Rescuers were looking through the wreckage Tuesday to find workers who are still missing.

There was at least one report that managers would not let the employees leave. The company denies that.

Officials said at least 130 people across five states are dead.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, President Biden plans to visit North Carolina. Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Georgia to see the damage.
