A Delaware judge dismissed defamation claims filed by a computer repairman at the center of Hunter Biden’s laptop controversy. A Superior Court judge threw out John Paul Mac Isaac's defamation claims on Monday, Oct. 1, against CNN, Politico, Hunter Biden, and the Biden Campaign Committee.

The judge ruled that the president’s son never explicitly mentioned Mac Isaac’s name.

The controversy began in October 2020 when the New York Post reported on emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop regarding his business dealings in Ukraine. This sparked intense debate about the device's authenticity and the nature of its contents.

In response to the initial reports, 51 former intelligence officials signed a public statement asserting that the laptop story had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation." This claim has since been discredited .

Mac Isaac alleged he was defamed by media reports and statements implying the laptop left at his shop in April 2019 was part of a Russian disinformation campaign. The repairman claimed these suggestions portrayed him as a thief, hacker, or participant in a Russian plot.

Hunter Biden himself contributed to the confusion in a 2021 television interview, suggesting the laptop could have been stolen, hacked, or involved Russian intelligence.

The FBI later confirmed that Biden had indeed dropped off his laptop at Mac Isaac's shop.

Mac Isaac's attorney announced plans to appeal the decision, saying, “Hunter Biden went on national TV and gaslighted the American public by indicating John Paul Mac Isaac was part of a Russian hoax when he knew it to be false.”

The judge also rejected Hunter Biden's counterclaims for invasion of privacy due to untimely filing.
