A new report by House Republicans revealed 1.7 million Special Interest Aliens crossed into the United States illegally during the Biden-Harris administration. The report said those 1.7 million individuals did not include an additional 382 individuals on the terrorist watchlist.

"The terrorist threat to the United States has skyrocketed due to the Biden-Harris Administration’s dangerous open-borders policies ," the report said.

According to the Department of Homeland Security , Special Interest Aliens are non-U.S. persons who potentially pose a national security risk to the United States based on an analysis of their travel patterns.

The DHS said the term is not to be confused, nor used interchangeably, with Known or Suspected Terrorists, or KSTs. Those individuals have been arrested, charged or are suspected of engaging in terrorist activities. The terrorist watchlist provides identity and other information regarding KSTs.

Judiciary Republicans accused the Biden-Harris administration of trying to conceal information. They cited testimony from a former Border Patrol sector chief.

“I was told I could not release any information on this increase in SIAs or mention any of the arrests the administration was trying to convince the public there was no threat at the border,” Retired Chief Aaron Heitke told the Homeland Security Committee in September 2024.

The report singled out the case of Mohammad Kharwin who was put on the terrorist watchlist in January 2018. The record was updated in 2019 to add a middle name and the "W" and "R" in the last name were switched making it read: Mohammad Moussa Khawrin.

As a result, Border Patrol agents released Kharwin into the United States in 2023 without alerting Immigration and Customs Enforcement about the possible ties to terrorism. The agency also lacked biographic or biometric information.

According to the committee, 99 people on the terrorist watchlist have been released into the country during the Biden-Harris administration, and 34 others in custody have not yet been removed from the country.

The committee also pointed out there have been 1.9 million “gotaways” during the administration, or folks who evaded border patrol apprehension. The committee calls the situation a “national security nightmare.”
