As jury selection begins , Hunter Biden is set to go on trial Thursday, Sept. 5, for federal tax charges in Los Angeles, California. The president’s son is accused of failing to pay more than a million dollars in taxes since 2016. He pleaded not guilty and contends he did end up paying all his taxes, albeit late.

Hunter, who has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for years, claims he repaid his taxes in 2019 after getting sober.

The trial could last about a month and it's set to center on his failure to pay taxes while experiencing addiction. However, he still spent large amounts of money to live a party boy lifestyle .

This trial comes in the wake of his June conviction in Delaware of lying about his drug use to illegally buy a gun. He is currently appealing that ruling.

Hunter is the first child of a sitting president to face criminal charges . If convicted, his other conviction could lead to stiffer penalties because he’d be considered a repeat offender.

He’s set to be sentenced in the gun case in November.

President Biden has said he will not pardon his son .
