Dev Patel Reveals Favorite Rom-Com and Says He’d Love to Star in One

Dev Patel rom-com era? Screenwriters, get those pens to paper because the Academy Award nominee revealed on the red carpet for the 2024 TIME 100 Gala that he is down to join the rom-com renaissance.

"Everyone wants to see you in a rom-com," the red carpet host revealed, to which Patel, immediately flattered, said, "Do they? Oh wow. That's cool. I love rom-coms".

"I wouldn't mind doing my own Hugh Grant vibes. Let's do it," Patel said.

Patel has had a big year. His directorial debut, Monkey Man (which he also co-wrote and starred in), premiered at this year's South by Southwest Film Festival and went on to open at the box office to $10.1 million, going on to gross $31.7 million worldwide from its $10 million budget.

While Monkey Man is an R-rated action flick, he's got a soft spot for the rom-com genre.

When asked for his favorites, Patel said, "Anything Hugh [Grant] has done", going on to say, "But Pretty Woman is probably my favorite".

Who would he want to star opposite? "You can't do that to me," Patel said, "I would be so lucky. Any of the cool actresses working today."
