Here’s How Anya Taylor-Joy Loses an Arm in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Anya Taylor-Joy has outlined one specific injury set to befall her in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - the loss of her arm.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly , Taylor-Joy detailed her journey into the one-armed, shaven-headed character we see in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road , as played by Charlize Theron.

“Both were important steps that we had to take if we were going to be able to chart the journey of how this little girl became a character that now we all know and love," Taylor-Joy said.

"It made sense to me because I think what's incredible about this character is she just refuses to die — really, she refuses. And it made sense to me that she would lose her arm in the pursuit of something that she thought was bigger than herself. That made a lot of sense to me."

The loss of Furiosa's arm is a pivotal moment for the character, and will be instrumental to the story. It’s also bound to be gory, given Furiosa is rated R for ‘strong violence’, confirms MPAA .

The arm amputation might have something to do with Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), a chiselled warlord who abducts Furiosa into his roaming bike horde and ferries her across the wasteland. If anyone’s going to be a bit heavy-handed, it’s that guy.

Furiosa releases in theaters on May 24th.
