Lady Gaga Spit Out Her Coffee After Hearing Joaquin Phoenix Sing in Joker 2

Lady Gaga was taken aback by Joaquin Phoenix’s singing abilities in J oker: Folie À Deux - so much that she spat out her coffee.

When Phoenix, who plays Joker in the sequel to DC’s 2019 villain origin story, sang in front of the global pop icon for the first time, it’s safe to say she wasn’t expecting it.

“I do seem to remember her spitting up coffee the first time I sang, so that felt good, that was exciting, and made me feel confident,” Phoenix told Empire .

It seems like Gaga didn’t watch Phoenix’s 2005 biopic Walk The Line , in which the actor was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of late country singer Johnny Cash.

“Gaga was always very encouraging of just, ‘Go with what you feel, it’s fine’,” Phoenix continued. “For somebody who’s not a performer in that way, it can be... uncomfortable to do that, but also very exciting.”

In Joker: Folie À Deux , Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck strikes up a relationship with Gaga’s Harley Quinzel after they meet at Arkham Asylum.
