The Office Australian Reboot - First Look

The Office is getting an Australian spin-off.

Prime Video is taking the popular sitcom to The Land Down Under, with all eight episodes premiering simultaneously on October 18.

Like previous editions of the workplace mockumentary, it follows the ups and downs of a team of office workers led by a hapless boss. This time, however, the boss is a woman.

Felicity Ward ( Time Bandits, Wakefield, The Inbetweeners 2 ) is the franchise's first-ever female lead. She plays Hannah Howard, managing director of Flinley Craddick packaging company.

According to Prime Video, the plot centres on Howard's struggle following news the head office plans to close her branch and shift everyone to remote work.

Prime Video says in a statement: "While many aspects of the workplace have changed since [the original], especially post-2020, the physical office is a timeless precinct for comedy and one that will never tire an audience as long as the characters are faced with relatable dilemmas, and entertaining and hilarious."

The Office originally premiered on UK screens in 2001, starring Ricky Gervais as boss of a paper merchant David Brent. It lasted two seasons. The format launched in the US in 2005, and produced nine seasons.

After a dozen international spin-offs, the upcoming Australian version is the 13th global adaptation overall.
