Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 to Bring Back Fan Favorite Character

Avatar: Fire and Ash isn’t even out yet, but we know who’ll be in its sequel.

That’s none other than Sigourney Weaver, who plays Dr. Grace Augustine in Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water . The actress confirmed her appearance in a recent interview.

“They’re written,” Weaver tells Deadline of the as-yet unnamed Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 films. “We know what they are. They’re really good. But Jim is still finishing three. It’s nice to look forward to them.”

When asked if she’s reprising her role, Weaver replied, “Yes, I think I’m allowed to say that.” The films are are a long way off yet, however. The third film in the series, Avatar: Fire and Ash , releases 19 December 2025, with Avatar 4 scheduled for 2090.

It’s not the only character Weaver could return to. Her role in Alien as Ellen Ripley is never far from her mind - but only if the script is right. “I have yet to read a script that said ‘you have got to do this.’ So for me, she is in this other dimension, safe from the Alien for the time being. I don’t really think about it, but you know, it’s not completely impossible, and certainly a lot of good filmmakers are inspired by the material.”

Even a Ripley cameo would be a nice Easter egg for movie fans, just as the Alien: Romulus director revealed an Alien: Isolation Easter egg for video game fans .
