Terminator Zero has arrived on Netflix and debuted on Rotten Tomatoes to a shiny score of 100% from 16 critic reviews who have high praise for the anime series featuring the voices of Rosario Dawson, Timothy Olyphant, Ann Dowd, André Holland, and Sonoya Mizuno.

Judgement Day and anime collide in this brand-new eight-episode series from Masashi Kudô, which exists in two timelines: 2022 and 1997.

In 2022, a war has been raging for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines, while in 1997 the AI known as Skynet has gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity.

Total Film's David Opie calls the series "an exhilarating anime spinoff that pays homage to the classic films while still forging its own path", with Ron Hilliard at Discussing Film calling it "the best thing the franchise has released in years" and "one of the most stylish Netflix original animes to date."

Other opinions come from the likes of Daniel Fienberg at The Hollywood Reporter, who says, " Terminator Zero sets a solid framework for an ongoing story that is, like the best parts of the franchise, as much about very human choices as it is about spectacle."

Terminator Zero is available to watch on Netflix now.

    Terminator Zero Review Roundup

    • Collider: Terminator Zero 's excellent voice actors and animation can't fully save a plot that becomes bogged down in exposition and one too many twist endings.
    • Slashfilm: Here's hoping Netflix allows the series to continue for more seasons because it's not only one of the best anime the streamer has put out, but Terminator Zero is the new direction the franchise needs to pursue.
    • FandomWire: Terminator Zero is a brutally violent spectacle and a beautiful visual display of animation's limitless capabilities.
    • Inverse: The series unspools its story with careful precision, and each choice is anchored by heart-wrenching character work and innovative action.
    • Mama's Geeky: From action packed moments of pure adrenaline, to softer moments that will give viewers chills, Terminator Zero delivers. It does a great job of bringing something new and unique to this series by fully embracing the horror elements.
