We’re a little closer to knowing the Castlevania Nocturne Season 2 release date, after Netflix released a snazzy new trailer during Netflix Geeked week. There’s no concrete date yet, but Netflix said Castlevania Nocturne Season 2 will air sometime in January 2025.

The new season has plenty of ground to cover, too. Nocturne Season 1 ended on a tense cliffhanger, with Tera a newly-minted vampire spawn, Erzsebet successful in her bid to reincarnate Sekhmet, Richter only recently awakened to his Belmont powers, and Alucard storming onto the scene at the last minute. Netflix’s trailer really is just a teaser, though. You get a few – admittedly quite stylish – shots across 30 seconds, including some lovely animation where Alucard ignites his sword with crimson flame, and that’s about it.

There's a general hint that memories will play an important role, as several shots in the trailer hint at tragic events in the cast's past, though that could just be for dramatic effect as well.

Castlevania Nocturne debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96 percent rating, putting it above the original show’s first and third seasons, but slightly below seasons two and four, which both ended up with 100 percent ratings from critics.

Audience scores were rather less warm. If you filter out the usual nonsense reviews where people are angry that every character wasn’t a straight male, there’s a light consensus that Nocturne went heavy on action at the expense of storytelling. Audience scores for the original series dipped below the 90 percent mark in the third season, but remained above 85 percent.

The story might have been rather less substantial than the original series' narrative, but perhaps, like with so many modern shows, the first season of Nocturne was just setting up what’s to come.
