The first look at Angelina Jolie as Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín 's Maria was released almost a year ago, and we now have an official release date from Netflix as the film's festival run continues.

Following the film's premiere in Italy and the Venice Film Festival , critics said Angelina Jolie gives a "career-best performance" in the biopic that follows the life story of the world's greatest opera singer, Maria Callas, during her final days in 1970s Paris.

Maria now has a busy few weeks as it makes its United States premiere at the New York Film Festival before heading to the Hamptons International Film Festival in October, then making its way to the São Paulo International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival , Chicago International Film Festival, and AFI Fest.

It has now been revealed that Maria will release on Netflix on December 11, 2024, following a run in select theaters starting November 27.

"I'm excited to partner again with the Netflix team who care so passionately about movies," Larraín told Netflix . "This film is my most personal work yet. It is a creative imagining and psychological portrait of Maria Callas who, after dedicating her life to performing for audiences around the world, decides finally to find her own voice, her own identity, and sing for herself. I'm deeply honored to tell this story and share it with audiences worldwide like Maria did with her life."

Angelina Jolie is joined in the cast by Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, Valeria Golino, and Academy Award-nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee.
