8 Best Star Wars Characters Who Need a Disney+ Spinoff Series
By Griff Griffin,

The Star Wars universe is full of weird and wonderful characters, like the '50s space diner owner Dexter Jettster, and a contraband-pusher called Elan Sleazebaggano. The following eight, however, fully deserve their own Disney+ spinoff series.
They’ll be mirroring the trend set by Obi-Wan Kenobi, who got his own self-titled series in 2022, and Ashoka, whose own series proved even more popular in 2023.
With an entire galaxy of people (and aliens) to pick from, it’s difficult to narrow it down, but we think all of the characters here are the most fascinating in Star Wars history. Don't miss our 10 best Game of Thrones characters ranked worst to best .
A live-action Darth Maul spinoff series would go incredibly hard. He only appeared in one Star Wars film and barely says a word but this Force-sensitive Dathomirian Zabrak casts a long shadow over the entire universe. Obi-Wan sliced him in half at the climax of The Phantom Menace , but that was just the start. Maul survived, with his post-slice life derailed extensively in the extended universe.
Essentially, he crafted a fetching set of robot spider legs for himself then became a powerful crime lord, expanding his criminal enterprise the Shadow Collective to include the Pyke Syndicate, Black Sun, and the Hutt Clan, seizing power on the planet Mandalore, and installing the Death Watch as the new ruling government. He also took on his own brother, Opress, as his Sith apprentice, which gives his series a great potential name: Maul and Opress.
We need more insight into life as a Stormtrooper, and Finn is our perfect entry point. We catch him on the tail end of his career in The Force Awakens , and his arc amounts to little in the overall saga. The Stormtrooper previously called FN-2187 shunned his identity as a government mouthpiece and defected to the rebellion, but why?
He was part of a new wave of human stormtroopers, conscripted as a child rather than created as a clone like soldiers of the past, so he had more individualism. According to the comics, he served as a cadet under Captain Phasma and was said to enjoy it when his fellow troopers took off their helmets so he could see their faces. Lets dig into that humanism and see the roots of his rebellion under the First Order.
OK, what was the deal with Snoke? He was introduced in The Force Awakens then killed in the very next film, without so much as a nod towards his backstory. Enough time has passed that we want to know more about Andy Serkis’ Supreme Leader of the First Order.
An artificial being, Snoke helped turn Ben Solo into Kylo Ren. His spinoff series could detail his creation at the hands of Sidious and his cult of Sith loyalists as they experiment with Kamino cloning technology on the planet Exegol prior to the Battle of Endor.
Greedo’s best known for his run-in with Han Solo in the Mos Eisley cantina, where the pair traded blaster shots in a booth over a Jabba the Hutt job, but this rough Rodian has more to him than that. During his youth on Tatooine he actually had numerous run-ins with Anakin.
Following Anakin’s podracing victory in the Boonta Eve Classic, Greedo accused him of cheating, prompting a bitter rivalry between the two that went on years. He also had a unique bounty hunting system: while working for Jabba he would bring in small-time criminals, help them to escape, then bring them back to re-collect the bounty. He once brought in an unlucky Jawa three times. This has the makings of a comedy crime caper.
Simply one of the finest musicians in the galaxy. Max Rebo was introduced in Return of the Jedi , where he played in Jabba the Hutt’s palace band. Jabba died, but Rebo survived, continuing his creative output with the Max Rebo Band and spreading the music known as jizz (yes, that’s actually the name of the genre) throughout the settled systems.
There are plenty of Max Rebo side stories in the Star Wars expanded universe. For instance, did you know Jabba once sent him to Hoth to play for a rival crime lord? He was also in a house band at the Mos Eisley cantina until his band leader, Orbus, was killed by rival band the Modal Nodes.
Arguably the most influential Jedi who ever lived since he mentors both the young Darth Vader and his Padawan Obi-Wan. Liam Neeson memorably portrays the maverick Jedi Master in The Phantom Menace , with the actor reprising his role as a Force ghost in the Obi-Wan series, but it would be great to see a younger Qui-Gon learning the ropes as a fledgling Jedi.
Born on the galactic capital of Coruscant, he trained under Count Dooku, and at one point the pair formed a strike force to track down notorious bounty hunter Shenda Mo. It's time to see that in lavish live-action.
One of the most renowned Jedi in history, this Nautolan male served as a Jedi General in the Grand Army of the Republic, as well as a member of the Jedi High Council. Fisto’s lightsaber skills are legendary. In fact, he almost defeated General Grievous in episode ten of animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars .
He met his untimely end after trying to arrest the Supreme Chancellor in Revenge of the Sith . He shouldn’t feel too bad though, since he was one of four Jedi the Chancellor, revealed to be Darth Sidious, killed that day (and he lasted a few seconds longer than the others).
The most famous member of the amphibious Mon Calamari, Admiral Gial Ackbar served for 60 years as a revolutionary leader during the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War. His crowning glory came during the Battle of Endor where he snatched victory as fleet commander from his ship Home One.
Already there’s enough right there to make several thrilling seasons of TV. Fun fact: the name of his species is said to be named after a calamari salad Star Wars artist Phil Tippett ate that day.
