Hugh Jackman Could Win Oscar for Deadpool and Wolverine

Marvel has a lot of faith in Deadpool and Wolverine . In fact, the studio powerhouse is entering its hit film into several Oscars categories.

Hugh Jackman, who plays razor-clawed mutant Wolverine, is going in for the best supporting actor categories in all the major upcoming awards shows, which includes Critics Choice, Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Golden Globes, and yes, the Oscars.

It makes sense. Deadpool and Wolverine shows a different side of Wolverine, says Hugh Jackman , and more than a few scenes show off his powerhouse acting skills.

He’s not alone. According to Variety, Marvel will also put Ryan Reynolds forward for Best Actor (Comedy or Musical), as well as submitting the movie itself for consideration in the Golden Globes comedy categories, and the Oscars technical categories.

If any of Marvel’s recent films have a shot at taking home the gold, it’s Deadpool and Wolverine . Not only is it the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, but it’s Marvel’s seventh biggest film of all time, which is saying something next to the likes of Avengers: Endgame ($2.799 billion) and Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.91 billion).

The category it has the most chance of winning, however, is a brand new one: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the Golden Globes. Introduced last year and won by Barbie , it stipulates a film must gross $150 million – $100 million of which must come from the US box office – or secure comparable streaming figures to be eligible. Deadpool and Wolverine grossed $1.3 billion.

Deadpool and Wolverine releases on digital on October 1, with a physical release to follow on October 22.
