STURGIS — Sturgis Public Schools has approved the hiring of a new assistant superintendent.

Britt Gross was selected as the district’s next assistant superintendent Monday during a special board of education meeting. Gross was one of three finalists from a pool of 12 applicants. She replaces Nicole Gittinger, who retired from the position last month.

Britt has a Bachelor’s degree in English and American literature and language from Eastern Michigan University, and a Master’s degree in education for administration and supervision, adult education and training, and curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix.

Prior to coming to Sturgis, she served Polk County Public Schools in Florida in a variety of roles, including reading teacher, freshman academy dean, senior coordinator, assistant principal, director of student learning and evaluation, director of special projects, assistant principal of curriculum, and most recently as middle school principal at Lake Alfred Polytech Academy, southwest of Orlando.

“I am extremely honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve the students and staff of Sturgis Public Schools,” Gross said. “Working together, I am confident that we can provide all learners in our schools with the educational opportunities to meet their individual needs and achieve their future goals.”

Superintendent Art Ebert said the district is “confident that Ms. Gross will help us propel our teaching and learning environments in alignment with our new strategic plan.”

“She has a proven track record of creating a positive school culture and building systems that get results on behalf of those that she serves,” Ebert said.

Gross plans on starting in the very near future, district officials said, and is currently looking for a house in Sturgis as she transitions from Florida.
