City offices closed July 4, trash service will run on schedule
City offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Despite the closure, both residential and commercial recycling and trash pick up routes will run on their regular schedule. The city’s transfer station, compost site and household hazardous waste trailer will be closed on Thursday, however.

Jonesboro Man Accidentally Shoots Himself
JONESBORO, Ark. – An accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound sent a young man to the hospital this week in Jonesboro. It happened around 9:45 AM on July 2, 2024 on Richsmith Lane. Initially, police were responding believing the incident to be a suicide attempt. The girlfriend of the victim had made the 911 call, but was out of the county, which caused some of the confusion. Authorities cleared the scene and detectives arrived to process evidence.

Woman Arrested After Repeated 911 Calls
JONESBORO, Ark. – A woman who called 911 on several women found herself going to jail after police arrested her over the weekend in Jonesboro. The incident went down between 8:45 PM and 9:37 PM on June 30, 2024 in Jonesboro. A resident on Belt Street contacted 911 in a frenzied state to report that a window had been busted out. The call, the first of four released by JPD, is tense.
Barbara Dunn to head Pine Bluff Convention Center
Barbara Dunn has been named executive director of the Pine Bluff Civic Auditorium Complex Commission, the city panel that oversees the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Commission chairwoman Lisa Kosmitis announced the hire Monday, two weeks after the panel fired Joseph McCorvey. Dunn said she will begin her duties Aug. 5.

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — A host of reptiles and other animals were released by members of a response team into the Ouachita River yesterday. The release stems from an oil spill that occurred recently. Team members were able to recover and release the animals after they were cleaned and assessed by professional oil recovery contractors.
