So That’s Why Bama Morgan Got Dropped From Bama Rush For the 2nd Year in a Row…

So I’m going to preface this story with the fact that college culture is a very foreign concept to me (literally, I’m Australian, hi), but every year, thousands of young women participate in the University of Alabama’s informal sorority “ rush ” in the hopes of finding their place on campus. Bama Morgan is one of them, but on August 15, 2024, she announced she’d been dropped.

“As most of you know, I was released from recruitment yesterday and I was not asked back for the round of sisterhood, however, I still do need to go to sorority row to meet up with my Rho Chi [recruitment counselor] to give her a little parting gift that I have for her,” Morgan explained on TikTok .

Why was Morgan dropped from Bama Rush?

While she didn’t go into the details on TikTok, someone shared on GreekRank.com that “the problem last year was her low GPA—hopefully she worked hard to raise it to maximize her choices.” Another speculated, “People keep forgetting this one fact: She’s a sophomore with junior credits. If she gets into a house, she’ll be in the sorority for much less time as a member compared to freshman. Which sorority wants that??? [sic’]”

Another theorized it was about Morgan’s activity on social media . “Over the summer she was on a TikTok live with the TikTok influencer that has beef with Gypsy Rose Blanchard. as soon as I saw that and saw that they were discussing Gypsy I knew it was game over for her to rush again, [sic]” they wrote.

In 2023, Morgan told HerCampus.com that her first attempt was a last-minute decision. “I decided [to rush] last minute, literally, two days before the deadline,” she said, explaining how she decided to go against the current and it ended up with her going viral, amassing over 178,0000 TikTok followers.

“I wanted to show [people] what it was like to be out there on the front lines, and with the humidity,” she continued. “Your hair never looks as good. Your makeup’s not that great either. Nobody was showcasing the really bad aspects of it. And I didn’t like that aspect of it at all, period. I wanted to humanize RushTok.”

In the end, her bid was unsuccessful. “It’s okay to not get into a house, it’s not the end all, lose all,” Morgan reflected. “There are other things for you to do on campus. There are clubs, and friend groups — the only difference between a girl who’s not in a sorority and a girl who’s in a sorority, is the girls who are in [one] have to clean up after the parties.”
