Jenna Ortega had a good laugh about those Johnny Depp dating rumors. The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star finally addressed the weird rumor that’s been floating around that she’s dating an actor nearly 40 years her senior.

In Buzzfeed ‘s Puppy Interview , the 21-year-old Wednesday actress discussed the “craziest rumor” with the 61-year-old actor. “Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to leave us alone. It’s so insane to me,” she said. “I never said anything like that.”
She continued saying that it made a couple of people on set confused. “I thought that that was pretty hilarious,” she said. “I was on set with Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and he said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny …’ and I laughed because I don’t know that person.”

Rumors started to circulate when Deuxmoi reportedly received an anonymous tip claiming that the pair had been spotted together and were possibly working on the sequel to Beetlejuice together. According to the Daily Mail, the rumors of his involvement with the project first started in June 2022 when Depp was temporarily listed as a cast member in Beetlejuice 2 on Google search results, but that has since been debunked because he’s not in the movie or doing movie promotion at all.

The Pirates of the Caribbean ‘s rep denied the rumors when they first came out. “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever,” they told Daily Mail on September 2, 2023. “He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be.” Depp’s spokesperson went on to add, “He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
Ortega also addressed the “ridiculous” rumors on her social media account at the time dispelling the rumors as well. “I can’t even laugh,” the Scream star reportedly wrote in a since-deleted post shared to her Instagram Story.
Though the two appear to be single right now, the only other thing they have in common is being a collaborator with Tim Burton. Ortega worked with the director on Wednesday and the Beetlejuice sequel, while Depp worked with him on Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd .
