While hauntings and demonic possessions make for thrilling pieces of entertainment , it’s different when it’s actually happening to you. Meet Latoya Ammons, whose torment by more than 200 evil spirits is the basis of Netflix ‘s hit movie, The Deliverance , and find out where she is now.

In 2011, Latoya Ammons, her mother Rosa Campbell, and her three children moved into a rental house in Gary, Indiana. Soon, Ammons reported that her children exhibited violent behavior, spoke in strange voices, and showed signs of possession, such as levitating. The children were taken to doctors and psychologists who were initially skeptical but also witnessed some of the bizarre behavior. One of the doctors noted that one of the children seemed to walk backward up a wall, which was documented in medical records. The real-life events of The Deliverance allegedly take place in 2011 so…

    Where is Latoya Ammons now?

The Ammons family has maintained a low profile since the events depicted in the movie (which while based on a true story does take certain creative liberties). That same year, Ammons temporarily lost custody of her children due to concerns from the Department of Child Services (DCS), which suspected child abuse or neglect.

However, she regained custody and by February 2013, the case was closed. The DCS report said the family “have not experienced any issues with demonic presences or spirits in their home … in Indianapolis.” They are “moving on from that point in their lives.”

“The family continues to attend church regularly on Sunday, but the family is no longer fixated solely on religion to explain or cope with the children’s behavior issues,” the report continued, adding that Ammons’ mother praised her “for being a good mother, for stepping up and doing what she needed to do to ensure the children’s safety.”

The Deliverance ‘s director and producer, Lee Daniels, told The Hollywood Reporter that he spoke to the family at the beginning of the filmmaking process. “I spoke to her, I believe once or twice, in the beginning. And she’s lovely. She was at peace,” he said.

    What happened to the house?

According to The New York Times , the host and executive producer of Ghost Adventures , Zak Bagans, bought the house for $35,000 in 2014. He filmed a documentary about the events there called Demon House before having the home demolished in 2016. In case you’re wondering, 3860 Carolina Street in Gary, Indiana, is still visible on Google Maps and honestly, it kinda gives us the creeps.

“Something was inside that house that had the ability to do things that I have never seen before — things that others carrying the highest forms of credibility couldn’t explain either,” Bagans told the IndyStar via email at the time. “There was something there that was very dark yet highly intelligent and powerful.” Nooo, thank you.
