I won’t lie to you. I sat down to research jewelry trends for this story, and it feels we are in a jewelry recession, and it might have to do with the actual recession. It’s not exactly that jewelry has gone anywhere, but look around. There’s a lot less fine jewelry, or even serious costume jewelry (you know what I mean), as much as we’re seeing statement jewels, silly charms, obnoxious metal clips, and belts and chains.

This may have something to do with the phenomenon observed several awards seasons ago that female celebs were not wearing necklaces, letting their décolletages go totally bare.
