Liam Payne died at the age of 31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina after an unexpected fall in his hotel room. The former One Direction member was reportedly vacationing in the South American country weeks after he saw former member Niall Horan perform.

Liam Payne rose to fame when he auditioned for The X Factor and was placed in the hit group One Direction with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan. The group became one of the biggest boybands in the world but broke up in 2016, a couple of years after Zayn Malik left the band. Payne then pursued a solo career and debuted his 2017 single “Strip That Down,” featuring Quavo, which reached the Billboard Top 10. He is survived by his 7-year-old son Bear, whom he shared with ex Cheryl Cole.

    How did Liam Payne die?

Liam Payne died after falling off a third-floor story hotel room balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel on October 16, 2024. Alberto Crescenti , Buenos Aires emergency services chief, told La Nación that Liam Payne suffered “serious injuries” that were untreatable once responders arrived at the scene.

“Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” he explained. “Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.” The chief emphasized that his team could not save him. “The team could do absolutely nothing,” he continued. “There was no resuscitation because it was confirmed that he had died. The whole body had very serious injuries.”
